Berlin, Favourites
A few words of advice; unless you are eating in The Ritz or The Grill Royal, venues where you will easily be spending €50 + a head, it’s best to have cash as most places will not accept credit cards. Save yourself a lot of frantic running around by being prepared.
Berliners do German and Austrian food really well but struggle a bit with world cuisine.
Cafes & Delis
♥ Aunt Benny’s- (www.auntbenny.com) Oderstr. 7 / Entrance on Jessnerstrasse, Friedrichshain. Good coffee, bagels, baked goods.
♥Barcomi, Sophienstraße 21, Mitte 10178 (http://barcomis.de/) - I debated whether to include this in the end I decided it’s a must visit just for a seat in the courtyard and the homemade bagels are good - the salmon, not so much. The cakes are pretty to look at but they can be a bit dry.
♥Brot und Butter, Hardenbergstrasse 4-5, Charlottenburg. Wonderful deli attached to the Manufactum store.
♥ Brot und Öl, Gneisenaustr. 58, Kreuzberg 10961- Fantastic sourdough!
♥Kaffeemitte, (Coffee & freshly made sandwiches) - Weinmeisterstraße 9, 10178, Mitte
♥Meierei, Kollwitzstraße 42, Prenzlauer Berg (www.meierei.net) - Alpine deli, seasonal food, well made, knowledgeable staff.

♥Vinos y Mas, Nollendorfstr. 15, Schöneberg - small, nothing fancy but you can enjoy a glass of wine with a plate of cold cuts or cheese.
Fast Food
♥Angry Chicken, Skalitzer Straße 36, Kreuzberg. (www.angry-chicken.com) Greasy fried chicken wings, super spicy or mild.
♥Burgermeister, Oberbaumstraße 8, Kreuzberg. (www.burger-meister.de). Burgers served in a beautiful disused, Prussian styled bathroom, in the arches underneath the train tracks. A very ‘Berlin’ experience.
♥Curry 36, Mehringdamm 36, Kreuzberg - If you are going to do the whole curry wurst thing you might as well do it here.
♥Dolores, Rosa-Luxemburg-str. 7, Mitte. (www.dolores-online.de) Big, burritos, served quickly.
♥Hamburger Heaven, Graefestraße 93,10967, Kreuzberg. Good burgers with some superlative hand cut fries.
Other
♥Soho House, Torstraße 1, Prenzlauer berg - The food can be incredible (70% of the time) and pretty average the rest but it’s a great space with comfy sofas, wonderful roof top terrace in the summer and you can spend a whole Sunday there easily (we often do).
Restaurants
♥E.T.A Hoffman, Yorckstraße 83, 10965 Kreuzberg.
♥Bandol sur Mer (Berlin Unlike Link) Torstraße 167, 10115, Mitte
♥Kushinoya - (www.kushinoya.jp) Bleibtreustrasse 6, Charlottenburg. Japanese, Fried food on a stick.

♥Renger-Patzch, Wartburgstraße 54, Schöneberg 10823 (www.renger-patzsch.com) Seasonal German food, stark bistro style, good service, delicious food!
♥Schwarzwaldstuben (Swabian Food) - Tucholskystraße 48 10117, Mitte
♥Tim Raue (1 Michelin Star Asian Food by the former chef of Uma) Rudi-Dutschke-str. 26, Kreuzberg, 10969
♥Volver, Luisenstraße 41, Mitte (www.volver-tapas.de) Spanish tapas, nothing fancy, run by a couple, our local.

Oh, this blog is so fun to see! I lived in Berling (then West) from 1986-1988…my last two years of high school. I left for college and my parents stayed another two years. I hadn’t been back since they moved away until this last February…and it was AMAZING to see the city with my husband…and to see it UNITED as it was meant to be. I look forward to exploring your blog some more! (And am also inspired to blog about my trip - I wasn’t blogging then, but I took notes!!!)
Berlin is still changing; weekly, daily. It’s as exciting a city as you can get in old world Europe.
I totally agree! It’s a city unlike any other in Germany - or anywhere else I’ve seen. I love it!
Hi! What a great blog you have here. Can’t believe I only found you now as I was in Berlin a couple of weekends back. I did manage to find Barcomi’s and Ka De We though
I just saw your Berlin post. You did quite a bit of serious eating while you were here.
