Brot & Butter, the Manufactum Deli, Charlottenburg

I finally got round to having lunch at Brot & Butter this weekend (the bakery, deli that is adjacent to Manufactum).
I wanted to avoid eating meat for lunch and didn’t want the pasta so I opted for the odd sounding Mojo Rojo (I kept picturing Austin Powers, didn’t he always go on about his mojo?). I was told this dish comes from the Canary Islands but having since looked it up, it doesn’t have too much of a relation to the original recipe. That didn’t stop it from being utterly delicious. It was a piquant cream cheese, with pureed cooked red peppers folded through it, chunks of sun-dried tomatoes (They’re back! Or maybe here in Berlin, they never left) and fat olive slices. The cheese was served with pan roasted potatoes, a clump of peppery rocket and a big spoon full of that cucumber salad that Germans do so well, limp and transparent (sounds dodgy, tastes delicious). 
I’ve noticed there is a fondness in this city for the €5 lunch, big plate, piled high. This dish was €8.80, so certainly more but the quality is there and the service is there, and that really does make all the difference. Other popular options are the cheese or meat plates and they serve a daily breakfast (until 12) which I am itching to go back and try (€4.20 - €9.80)
The dry stores on sale are an odd bunch but the meat and cheese counters are great as is the bread, which is baked on site. I picked up an oozing slice of Vacherin Mont d’Or (€3.20 / 100g), 1/2 a loaf of Sauerteigbrot (sourdough) and some raw milk butter.

One of my favorite places in Berlin, hands-down. Love the smell of bread in there and I wish I could eat my way through the cheese and ham case.

I had a delicious smoothie there last summer for breakfast, and a Quarkstulle, too. I’ll meet you there anytime you want to go! It’s just around the corner.
That’s a consolation: after having had lunch at Hudson’s today, I was gettting really sad that my new job didn’t offer much in terms of nice lunch places. Happy tp be proven wrong!
You also have Rogacki up there and I had a nice bowl of noodles and soup the other day on Kanstrasse (I will look up the name)
This looks like the kind of plate I could tuck into! And it is even has a familiar Spanish name.

This made me giggle — I think “never left” on the tomatoes is right. Marguerite, we’ll have to all meet you one day!
I used to live down the road from this place and bought my bread there every day. I realise how much I miss it.
